Turin Park
Villeray–Saint-Michel–Parc-Extension borough, Montreal
GRANDS PRIX DU DESIGN – 16th Edition Discipline: Landscape & Territories Categories: Special Awards / Landscape + Wood: Gold Certification Categories: Landscape Architecture in the Public Domain: Silver Certification
As part of the ambitious redevelopment project of Turin Park, located in the Villeray-St-Michel-Parc-Extension borough of Montreal, we had the opportunity to work closely with the borough’s architect. Together, we designed a playful and custom-made play module in partnership with the specialized company Earthscapeplay. Our main objective was to provide a space that is both safe and stimulating for children aged 5 to 12, while significantly contributing to the overall beautification of the park.
The chosen theme for this project had to pay homage to the magnificent mural titled “Diàlogo,” created in 2017 by renowned Chilean artist Mono Gonzalez. This artwork consists of representations of birds and abstract shapes, all painted in bright and vibrant colors. The team dedicated to this project successfully integrated the park’s design with this mural, thus highlighting Gonzalez’s work. The final result is a unique play area that not only offers an enriching play experience for children but also emphasizes the theme of bird life in their natural habitat.
This redevelopment project is not limited to the creation of a play area. It is part of a broader vision of urban revitalization, aiming to transform Turin Park into a meeting and relaxation place for the entire community. Through this initiative, we hope to encourage social interactions, promote physical activity among young people, and provide an aesthetic and inspiring setting for all park visitors.
